Dr. Emily Poynter , BSc., DVM.

Emily grew up in rural Ottawa. She had the dream and drive to work with animals from a very young age. Growing up she had horses, dogs and cats. Emily started her career in the veterinary field as a Registered Veterinary Technician here in Nova Scotia in 2008. After a few years in the field she made the decision to further her education and fulfill her aspiration of being a Veterinarian. Emily attended the Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI, where she completed the DVM program. She came back to beautiful Nova Scotia after graduation and lives in Hubley with Dan and their crew of furry children – Harley, Ellie, Dory and Savannah.

Having fulfilled the dream of becoming a Veterinarian, Emily is now so excited to embark on the adventure of small business ownership. She is so happy to have created Hammonds Plains Veterinary Hospital alongside her co-owner William, her husband Dan, and great friend and colleague Deidra.

Dr. William Hoskin was born and raised in Head of St. Margaret’s Bay, N.S. From a young age he developed a keen interest in science and a love for animals.

After graduating from high school Will pursued his interests, completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and Aquaculture at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College before going on to complete his Doctor
of Veterinary Medicine at the Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI.

Since becoming a veterinarian, Will has practiced in the Tantallon area. During this time he met and worked with Dr. Emily Poynter, learning of their similar drive and ambitions and helping each other through the daily challenges of veterinary practice.

Will knew he would ultimately one day have his own clinic. In 2019 this dream was finally realized. The Hammonds Plains Veterinary Hospital was born from a desire to provide a high standard of veterinary care as well as an excellent client experience to the community.

When not working, Will enjoys spending time at the barn with his wife Deidra and their horse Geneva.

Rebecca Higgs, RVT.

Born and raised in New Glasgow, NS, Rebecca found her love of animals.

She didn’t always know from the beginning that she wanted to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. However, her curiosity of the field and the passion for animal care drove her to attend the Veterinary Technician Program at the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Truro.

Rebecca could not believe how much that this career path had to offer. She knew from her first semester of classes that she was meant to be a veterinary technician.

Now residing in Halifax, Rebecca shares her home and her heart with two beautiful orange kitties named Tod & Copper. She is hopeful to bring a canine companion into her family in the new year!
